We spend so much time discussing what's worng with the world, that I thought it might be a good idea to talk about what's right. You know, things that are good and or make the world a better place. Not neccesarily things that are right such as you right hand, your right foot, the right of way, the wright brothers, or even the right stuff. Not even being right side up since being upside down doesnt really imply that the up side is the right side so maybe you are actually right side up when you are upside down.
No, I simply mean things that make this world more liveable. The little things. The smell of cinnamon rolls, frying bacon or fresh brewed coffee in the morning. A breeze strong enough to bend the blades of grass but not strong enough to make you lose your hat. The look of fresh fallen snow (until you have to drive in it). A girl in her favorite blue jeans and sweatshirt dancing to Tom Petty's "American Girl" without a care in the world. The crisp sound of a cold beer popping open on a summer day. The crackle of a fire on a cold evening. The fact that a single rose can be more emphatic than ten dozen when presnted the right way. The first pitch of a new season. A last second shot, goal, touchdown, kick or home run. Hitting a commercial free set of songs on a semilong drive. A meaningful hug and or smooch. The smell of a backyard grill. The feel of cool grass between your toes. That first lick of an ice cream cone. A movie so good that it seemed too short. Your team winning it all. The feel of the wind with the windows and or top down. When the price goes down. A great sale. A free anything. The feeling of a job well done. The feeling of being paid for that job well done. Knowing you did your best and being able to accept when sometimes that isnt quite enough. Losing a few pounds. A deep breath of fresh air. A sunday off with all the time to do everything and yet feeling no guilt about doing almost nothing but relaxing. Remembering that you really arent too old to enjoy some of the things you did when you were younger and not being afraid to do them.
Knowing that sometimes being right wont make you popular but also knowing that being wrong and admitting it is tougher than being right in the first place. Finding the cream filling. Grilled cheese and 'mater soup on a chilly afternoon. A perfectly spun forkful of pasta. Knowing that I could go on and on with this but I dont think I have to.
You get the point. There's nothing wrong with appreciating the little things in life, in fact you might just find yourself a little happier for doing so. Give it a whirl. Give yourself a chance to just enjoy something simple. Dont be afraid to be yourself and like what you like.
Really, it's ok.
We have a lot of choices to make everyday, some are much bigger and have more importance than others. But then again, isnt it nice to know that there really are times when your biggest decision is which flavor to get?
Yeah, I thought so.
Take some time out from the bad, and treat yourself to somethin good, even if that good is nothing more than relaxing for a few minutes with your feet up, maybe a good song or two and a whole lotta aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!
You'll thank yourself later for it.
